This house is handmade by Ben Murch, in the classic style of the Appalachians. It features a T-shaped design with three nesting boxes. This birdhouse has several safety and comfort features that many decorative birdhouses don't feature such as:

  • 3/4" solid pine construction recommended for insulation from both heat and cold.
  • Thick bird openings and no perches outside of bird holes, which protects small songbirds from larger predators.
  • Ventilation along eaves and roofing perlins to keep birds from suffocating heat.
  • Removable roof for easy clean-out in between bird families

This Birdhouse also features the excellent details that make it one-of-a-kind.Notice the handmade porch furniture, broom and shovel, axe and woodpile, and the well in back that includes rope and bucket. All these details are handcrafted. This birdhouse even features its own birdhouse!

Anybody can glue rocks to a piece of wood. This cabin's foundation and chimney are made of Southern yellow pine. It is hand-crafted to look like stone. This cabin is not stained. It has a hand-rubbed oil finish which brings out the natural colors of the wood. The windows, door, doorway and porch are crafted of red oak, the siding is made of individaul planks of red oak as well.

The roof of the cabin is authentic metal roofing that Ben salvaged from one of the outbuildings that he repaired here at Covenant Farm. This gives the house the authentic look and feel of the older cabins and farmhouses found here in the Blue Ridge Mountains and in many country homes in the south.
