This North Georgia Mountain hunting cabin is much like ones we saw when we lived near that area. It features the ubiquitous metal roof and a three-sided wrap-around porch (with a couple of dogs in residence underneath).
This birdhouse features two nesting boxes. It also has several safety and comfort features that many decorative birdhouses don't feature such as:
  • 3/4" solid pine construction recommended for insulation from both heat and cold.
  • Thick bird openings and no perches outside of bird holes, which protects small songbirds from larger predators.
  • Ventilation along eaves and roofing perlins to keep birds from suffocating heat.
  • Removable roof for easy clean-out in between bird families.
Ben hand carved the cabin's foundation, chimney and well from Southern yellow pine, transforming it to the look of natural stone with intricate hand-painting. The siding is crafted of cedar planks. Almost everything on this house is cedar, besides the box itself. The posts were hand cut from cedar branches. This birdhouse is not stained. It will weather to a beautiful silver gray over time. The dimensions are 22" x 22" x 18" high.

Ben's forte is his attention to detail. The front door has an aged barrel, and a shovel he made by hand. The door is oak, and he created the look of foot traffic wear from the steps to the door.

On the porch, there is a roof-high woodpile, to keep hunters warm on those chilly mountain nights. It comes complete with an axe that Ben also made by hand.

Also featured is a hand-made pine bench, for the end of the day and time for pickin', whittlin', enjoying a pipe or a pull on a jug.

The roof on this house is painted metal with a truly beautiful authentic patina. The metal comes from the roof of an old outbuilding here at Covenant Farm that Ben put a new roof on last Spring. The roofing he used dates back well over 50 years.

The porch features hand-whittled posts like those found on most mountain cabins in the Blue Ridge. The railings were all meticulously built by hand from Southern yellow pine.

And last, but not least is the stone shallow well with hand-made crank and bucket. The rusty roof on this is also from our building on our farm.

This cabin is available with your choice of detail items that you see on any of Ben's Folk Art Birdhouses. You can also order it with pine or oak siding and shutters painted, or stained. You can order authentic rusty metal roof, or painted.
