This is a new twist on one of Ben Murch's most popular Folk Art Birdhouse designs! This beautiful 3-nest farmhouse birdhouse uses ordinary mini-christmas bulbs to light up the windows of the house for a beautiful amber glow!

This Birdhouse is framed in Southern Yellow Pine. The windows, steps, door frames and siding are all mohagany, as is the bench on the front porch. The two doors are black walnut. The mahogany came from old church pews and is antique wood to start with, as is the walnut in the doors.

The two chimneys and the foundation are yellow pine, carved and hand-painted to look like real stone. This house features the kind of detail Ben Murch has become known for. There is a wood pile on the front porch next to the hand-made bench. In back, there is an outdoor fireplace with two log benches. The bushes are real moss, sprayed with polyurethane.

Ben's standard birdhouse features include:

  • 3/4" solid pine construction recommended for insulation from both heat and cold.
  • Thick bird openings and no perches outside of bird holes, which protects small songbirds from larger predators.
  • Ventilation along eaves to keep birds from suffocating heat.
  • Removable roof for easy clean-out in between bird families

This unique birdhouse has another feature:

The three birdhouse boxes are built into the roof, separating them from the lower section of the house where the lights are. There is a large gap, big enough to clean the boxes out. You may choose not to use the lights when you have bird families in the house.

The Magic Begins When the Sun Goes Down!

Ben painted the inside of these windows with a gold paint. During the day, they look like normal windows. But when the lights come on, you get a warm amber glow from these lights. You may want to experiment with other colors of bulbs or combinations of colors to give a different effect.

This house will make a truly unique centerpiece for your garden or your front porch. It is quite large, the base measures 20" x 21" and it stands 18" high at the chimney.

This will make a unique, one-of-a-kind gift, or an excellent piece of garden decor, or even a lamp post at the end of your walkway!
