This house is handmade in the classic Federal style of many early American homes. It features the tradition rectangular Federal design with two nesting boxes, with a "stove room" in back. This is a fully fubctional birdhouse that has several safety and comfort features that many decorative birdhouses don't feature such as:

  • 3/4" solid pine construction recommended for insulation from both heat and cold.
  • Thick bird openings and no perches outside of bird holes, which protects small songbirds from larger predators.
  • Ventilation along eaves and roofing perlins to keep birds from suffocating heat.
  • Removable roof for easy clean-out in between bird families.

A true craftsman and artisan, Ben hand carved this birdhouse from one-inch Southern Yellow Pine, hand-painting it to look like actual stone. The stove room on the back is sided with red oak, each piece of siding individually cut and nailed.

The dimensions are 20" x 22" x 20" high.

The roof of the house is authentic metal roofing that Ben salvaged from one of the outbuildings that he repaired here at Covenant Farm. The metal is hand-crimped to obtain the original roof pattern.

The windows and doors of this house are not nailed on or painted on. They are framed into the house, with shutters individually crafted and a real screen door in back. Each of the detailed items on this house, from the benches on the patio and in back, to the pillars and the upper level porch and railing were intricately crafted by hand.
